TAKE BACK YOUR POWER FROM RECOGNITION

Employee Engagement surveys often highlight a lack of recognition as a significant disengagement factor for employees. Isn’t it time we turned this stat on it’s head?

DOES RECOGNITION OR A LACK OF RECOGNITION HOLD POWER OVER YOU?

I don’t know about you, but allowing my motivation levels to be negatively impacted by whether or not someone else recognises my effort feels a lot like giving my power away.

I think its time to take back that power.

Recognition is a powerful tool to motivate and energise.

How simple is it to say thank you, I see you, that was an exceptional piece of work, I appreciate all of your effort…?

Totally simple to say, yet an often neglected and overlooked tool to motivate and energise others. I thought this little video clip would be a good reminder that you have this little super power in your artillery and you can never run out; use it.

On the other hand, if you feel drained and dis-engaged due to a lack of motivation. You’re putting in the effort, going the extra mile… a thank you would be nice.

It totally would, but allowing yourself to lose energy and focus because someone else is not using their super-power should never be the reason that you stop moving.

WHAT IF YOU ARE FEELING SUPER NEGATIVE RIGHT NOW?

The good news is, irrespective of where you are in your mindset right now or how you feel, your positivity levels can be increased. A simple, yet effective way to boost your positivity levels is to take pleasure in the simple joys in life.

Find and focus on 5 little things that made you smile today. (if you can’t find 5, find 4 or 3 or 2 or even 1, start somewhere).
Five things that brought you some level of happiness. 
Keep it small.

We often have the notion that to be happy and feel positive, everything needs to be going our way, everything needs to be perfect. But, it does not have to be that way. Find happiness in the small things. This will feed your positive mindset and in turn, will bring you more to be happy about.

Once you get this kick-started, you will see that the pace at which you shift into a positive state will increase. It will become easier and as you create habits that contribute to your positive mindset, positivity will soon become the norm in your life.
