I am so happy to be here. Thank you for hosting me. Life coaching, there is so much of misconception around that. We think that it’s only to certain people on certain journeys in their life. But actually, life coaching is an opportunity for every single person to get help with a goal that they’re trying to reach or challenge that they’re trying to overcome. So, we can help you at any stage of your life, going through any challenge or barrier or working towards any goal that you’re working towards. It’s about finding the right life coach to help you with that specific need in your life. So then, the short of it is absolutely anybody pursuing anything in their life can benefit from life coaching.

Now, we quite often hear this term burnout tell us about burnout at work, what is it? How does it show itself? And what do we do about it.

Burnout is such a vital thing to be thinking about, and if we think about the pandemics that we are going through, and all of the extra balls that every single person is having to juggle the additional uncertainties and risks and fears that we’ve got in our life. It’s just so much going on in our minds that you’re having to deal with constantly. And we get to a point where it’s just information overload, fear overload, overwhelm overload, and we can’t take it anymore. And we get to a point where we just crash, whether we see it in our bodies that are failing, whether we see it in our emotional wellbeing that completely upset and derails, whether we see it coming up and frustrations and just constant tension or not able to sleep properly at night. That is the signals and signs that you might be experiencing burnout in your life, you need to do something immediately, to just get you back on track and to make you feel better, more fulfilled, and definitely more productive, going forward.

Now you talk about self-care. And you say that self-care is not just about drinking a cup of tea or going for a massage. So, what exactly is self-care?

Self-care is taking care of all of you. So that cup of tea is beautiful in the moment, you might feel better for five minutes thereafter. The massage is excellent. I mean, you feel so invigorated in the moment, and you feel good for a day or two thereafter. But self-care is…. think of it like taking a shower, you have to take a shower every single day so that you are clean. In the same result, what are you doing every single day so that you’re getting your mind in balance again, that you’re revitalising the energy throughout your body such as taking care of your physical wellbeing? What are you doing on a daily basis to be popping up all of those results? That is what self-care is all about.

Now, I think with the pandemic and the state of the country with the recent riots and looting, we are all suffering from PTSD and emotional and physical wellbeing is currently at its worst. What advice do you have to people who are suffering from physical or emotional trauma?

So, you’ve just hit the nail on the head. So, we’ve had so much to go through. And when we had the massive events that we’ve all had to live through, you know, we’re experiencing first-hand, and it’s just taken the scales and topped it into the trauma and really the stress sort of area of our lives. So, the advice is to notice what is happening to you.
So become really self-aware of what is going on with you from an emotional perspective. How are you responding? How are you feeling in the moment? How are you thinking differently? How are you now suddenly experiencing stress and frustration? So, what are the signals that’s been coming up in your life? What is your body feeling like? Where you feeling tension in your body, all of these are pointing out that something is wrong in our lives we need to take action now.
And the tips are self-awareness definitely, and then implement one or two strategies on a daily basis, whether it is just taking a time out, to calm yourself to believe and to recentre yourself and to become present of what’s happening in the moment. And take care of your mindset from that perspective. Whether it’s exercising and revitalising your energy in your body.
It’s about being self-aware, knowing what you’re feeling, how it’s impacting you and then taking an incremental one small action to shift into a better state for yourself.

Now, with it being women’s month and you obviously specialising in women empowerment, what is your message of motivation to all the women out there?

You do not need to accept this as the norm. You do not need to accept this as the only way forward you can certainly do something about it. Self-Care is vitally important that if you do not top up your own reserves, there is no way that you can care for the people around you that you can keep your productivity and performance at work at its peak. That you can nurture your family that you can give to everyone that you’ve always given to at the level that you want to give to them.
So, you need to take care of yourself first, if you don’t prioritise your self-care, you’re going to at the end of the day not be able to do and give and serve in the way that makes you happy. So put yourself first. It’s not selfish, it’s making sure that you’re able to give and continue nurturing in the way that you absolutely love to.
